The Post Basic Bachelor of Science in Nursing (P.B.B.Sc Nursing) – First Year is aimed at registered nurses (GNM graduates) who wish to advance their academic qualifications and professional expertise. This year builds upon prior nursing knowledge and enhances understanding of comprehensive patient care, leadership, and community health principles.
One of the major subjects is Medical-Surgical Nursing, which provides in-depth knowledge of adult health problems, disease management, surgical conditions, and nursing interventions. Students strengthen their clinical reasoning and patient management skills through hospital-based training.
Sociology is included to help students understand social systems, cultural influences, family dynamics, and their impact on health and illness. This subject improves communication skills and promotes culturally competent care.
Another important subject is Psychology, which focuses on human behavior, mental processes, personality development, stress management, and coping mechanisms. This knowledge helps nurses better understand patient behavior and provide holistic care.
Community Health Nursing introduces concepts of public health, primary healthcare services, national health programs, and preventive strategies. Students participate in field visits and community postings to gain practical exposure.
Nursing Foundations and Research (Introductory Level) may also be included to enhance understanding of professional standards, ethics, communication, and basic research concepts.
Clinical training forms a major part of the first year. Students are posted in medical and surgical wards, community health centers, and other healthcare settings to apply theoretical knowledge in real-life situations.
